How do I print an invoice?

Stupid question, but how do I print an invoice? Knowledge base says I can download/print and invoice, but there is NO way to DO it. All I can do is "send" an invoice, which sends a very ugly (sorry, but it is ugly) email with a LINK to VIEW the invoice - and THAT only works if you're logged in. How would my client see it? I don't want my clients logging in, I just want to send a simple PDF invoice.

    Hi Ronald,

Stupid question, but how do I print an invoice? Knowledge base says I can download/print and invoice, but there is NO way to DO it

Printing from raw HTML (what you see in the browser) never looks good - so we suggest you download a PDF of your invoice, then print that.

View an invoice, then click the Print Preview (PDF) button. A new window will open with only your invoice. Inside there is a download button for PDF.

Keep in mind this is a PREMIUM feature only. You've downgraded to our FREE account, so downloading PDF files is not available to you.

...All I can do is "send" an invoice, which sends a very ugly (sorry, but it is ugly) email with a LINK to VIEW the invoice - and THAT only works if you're logged in.

I'll assume you're calling our email "ugly" because it's just plain text? That's a new one...

Anyway, again if you upgrade to our paid account plan you can customize what these emails say under the Settings > Template screen. Maybe you can make them less "ugly".

How would my client see it? I don't want my clients logging in, I just want to send a simple PDF invoice.

Again, this is a premium feature. If you want to email a PDF to your clients you'll need to use our premium plan.

    Best,

    • Seth

Not sure if anyone is going to see this, considering you closed the
"discussion" as soon as you answered, however I must reply. Your front
page lists in nice big letters:

Cashboard is 100% FREE for solo freelancers.
No commitments or credit card required.

What you do NOT say in those letters is that the "free" version doesn't
actually let you do anything. What good in an invoicing system if you
can't SEND an invoice. I'm very bothered by this. There are tons of
accouting/invoicing systems on the internet - many/most are insanely
expensive. So, I look for free/inexpensive alternatives that actually do a
good job. My freelance income runs $100 to $200 a month - I simply can't
afford an expensive system. I was very excited when I saw your "FREE"
pledge and signed up and entered all my data from Jan 1 onward. Then I
went to test an invoice, and found out - it's not really free. Hey, I
understand your need to make money, but please do NOT advertise a "FREE"
version when in fact you do not offer a usable one.

    Sincerely,
    Ronald Jackson

My reply regarding your "FREE" service is in a different email. As for the
"ugly" email that gets sent, lets look...

    Ronald Jackson,

You have an invoice pending from ronald-jackson.com

    ------------------------------

How the frak do I PRINT!!!

    ------------------------------

    Invoice Number: 13002
    Total Amount : $420.00
    Balance Due : $420.00
Due On : 03/23/2013 - about 1 month from now

    ------------------------------

    VIEW THIS INVOICE ONLINE:
    https://ronaldjackson.cashboardapp.com/provider/invoices/show/13002

    ------------------------------

Sent to [email blocked] from ronald-jackson.com using Cashboard.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I said it was ugly because it is FROM a gobbly-gook email address from
cashboardapp.com - this will almost certainly get it flagged as spam - not
because of the "cashboard" but because of the alphanumeric from address.

The "you have invoice pending" through the summary is just fine. Yes,
plain text, but so be it.

You then list a cashboardapp.com LINK for them to click on for them to view
    the invoice.
    1) It should be attached (yeah, I know - that's a "premium" service)
    2) my clients have NO business knowing who/what I use for an accounting
    service
    3) even if they DO click the link - they have to LOG IN!!! I really,
really don't want my clients logging into my accounting system.

You then end with a "sent to" and "from" line with your tagline "using
Cashboard". Again, I don't need to be doing free advertising for you -
especially if this is part of the "premium" service.

All in all, despite Cashboard looking nice, and having a decent interface -
and (by the way) understanding the difference between "cash" and "accrual"
accounting - it is a system I cannot use because I can't do the most basic
thing of all - send an invoice (not a LINK).

    Sincerely,
    Ronald Jackson

    Dear Ronald,

We really do appreciate all of your feedback. I wanted to take a moment to explain why we operate our business this way. I read your email and understand your frustrations.

Our Founder and Creator has worked extremely hard to construct a functioning system for freelancers and business owners just like you.

Our Free Account comes equipped with Unlimited Invoicing. When you email your customer the link to the invoice, they will be signed in automatically if they click on the link within 14 days. (They don't have to log in)

In our extensive market surveys we've found that we are much, much cheaper and more functional than ANY of our competitors. Cashboard is easy to use, looks professional and meets the needs of 99% of our customers. I really hope you don't fall into that other 1%. I'm confident that if you give us a try with a Premium Account, you will find that it's worth the $15.00 per month. I understand that you are looking for something free or inexpensive to complete your transactions and that's definitely us.

If you have any more questions or concerns about our product please feel free to email me.

    Warmest Regards,

    LacyJ

P.S. I also wanted to mention that the reason we 'close discussions' is so that web bots can't SPAM you. :)

Thank you for the follow-up. Unfortunately, I do fall into that 'other
1%'. If I could send a paper invoice, I wouldn't, but that's what it is.

As for pricing - I have found online accounting anywhere from free to
$30/month, so yours falls squarely "in the middle" as far as pricing goes.
What I really liked about your system is the fact that it does cash
accounting (i.e. report on invoices PAID not SENT for taxes). Very few
online accounting systems do this. As I noted in a prior email, when my
gross receipts per month average $100-$200 on 1-2 invoices, paying even
$15/month is too big a "chunk" of my small profit margin to justify. $5
per invoice (when looked at that way) is simply not reasonable.

As for the customer link to the invoice - it apparently isn't working quite
as well as you say. I actually tried it - I created an invoice, and sent
it to an alternate email of mine. I always try this when trying systems
just to see "what the customer sees". When I clicked on the customer link,
I was brought to the signin page - not an image of the invoice.

    Sincerely,
    Ronald Jackson
