Provide a second "make a payment" link on the client screen

From a user experience perspective, when a client is on their invoice screen, their eyes will naturally gravitate towards the amount they have to pay. Users largely ignore the very top of the screen unless they can't find what they want.

As an example, on first seeing the client invoice I had to look round for how to make a payment.

If you provided a second copy of the make a payment link for online payment, I think it would be where users eyes are already and improve the experience of online payment.

It might be possible to do this with custom templates. If so, I'll do it myself, but it would be worth doing on the default template.

Thanks for the "user experience perspective" here. As a trained UX professional myself it's always nice to get a critique from a fellow in the field.

What you're asking right now isn't possible with the templating language, but I'll take it into consideration.
