I'M BEGGING NOW :-) Please allow clients to log in and see expenses
Hi Seth,
I'm as ever really happy to be using Cashboard app, but something which restricts me sharing access to clients is that they can't see expenses. I'm sure I'm not alone and other CB users provide a service which includes costs which must be passed onto the customer?
I did mentioned this in August 2016 and I completely appreciate you're making other improvements with the system performance, but perhaps if you have a moment you could address this. If you were able to display expenses to client logins, I would share Cashboard with more clients, who may themselves become CB users and I would be more than happy helping them in any way I could with setting it up to their needs.
I'm sure you've found in your own personal life that sometimes you use a product which is so perfect, if for one tiny flaw. I have no complaints whatsoever about Cashboard other than this, I've never had a problem with the GUI, reliability or anything - and in the past if I did, you were there to helpfully resolve the issue (which was normally my fault!).
I genuinely look forward to hearing from you.
All the best,
Chris

Hi Chris,
I understand you really need that feature, but realistically I don’t think that’ll be coming any time soon. Right now I’m focused on issues that the majority of my customer base uses. Expenses are a really rare portion of the app that people utilize.
You can re-bill for expense already, which includes them on an invoice. Clients can see that on their UI. I’m curious why you’d like a list of expenses shown separately inside the client app? Is showing them on the invoice when billed for not enough?

Hi Seth,
Thank you very much for getting back to me and I do appreciate there will be more important matters for you to deal with. It surprises me that people don't use the expenses area, when I work there are generally costs involved which I must get back from the client.
At the moment I do add expenses and these are very nicely included on the final invoice. My suggestion at the moment is simply for clients to be able to log in and see 'live' project costs - they can clearly see the hours and the cost of those hours, but not the expenses. Sometimes my expenses (which are always passed on) can be up to £400-500, so I would naturally like the client to see them before the final invoice - otherwise they could say "well the online view didn't show those expenses, so I'm not paying them". Luckily most clients are very pleasant and understand there are additional costs which I make them aware of from the outset, but at present it's because they can't see the expenses when logged in, that I don't offer them the choice.
If your other app users don't have expenses or claim for them, they're very lucky and of course CB would be perfect.
It's probably unfair to compare CB to this, but it's a little like logging into online banking and never seeing debit interest charges among a transaction list. Then later one you receive the printed version and that's the only place they're listed.
I hope that makes sense, I've attached some screen shots which might help a little, but I do appreciate you've got to bend to the will of the majority of app users, to maximise your revenue.
Many thanks,
Chris

Makes complete sense Chris. I’ll keep it in mind when working on that section of the app in the future.

Thank you Seth, I do appreciate it's not a 'drag and drop' function, but it would be excellent and would actually tear you away from most other accounting apps/websites. Very much look forward to it!

Hi Seth,
Hope you're well.
Just wondered if there was any possible movement on this? It would be really useful - and it would get the CB word out more as my clients would have a link to your site. I'm happy to contribute in anyway, even thought about doing a few Youtube video's for you (only with your explicit permission/review though), or even do some blurb for you to update your testimonials page, which I think is a bit old now? Anything to help, so you can help me :-)
Thanks,
Chris

Sorry no movement on it. It's really really low on my priority list.

Thanks for being honest.

Hi Seth, I know you've got other more important matters, but I just wonder how much it would cost to have you add this facility, if the funds could be raised via GoFundMe or similar? $250 perhaps?

As a rule, I don’t prioritize or add features based on payment. If that were the case Cashboard would have included all manner of things that were funded by some of my larger customers, but might not be good for everyone overall.
I understand this is a huge need for you, but it’s not on my list of things to do.

Completely understand.
I know it's not on your list of things to do, but it really would make it a perfect product, which I would recommend without hesitation. I would even help people set theirs up to make take up easier.
