I have two consulting businesses which I have 2 invoice/estimate templates for. I have one staff and they record time to both businesses. I would like to isolate payroll for one business. For example, is there a way to have the "Report On" pull down menu offer that choice?

    Hi Leah,

Generally we recommend people running 2 businesses to have 2 separate Cashboard accounts.

I’m not really sure what you’re trying to use this “report on” menu for. Can you explain a bit more?

For tax purposes I want to be able isolate payroll for one business and
then isolate for the other. If I can't isolate them then I report payroll
and I have to manually subtract payouts for the individual businesses. Its
    really cumbersome.

I just figured since I was one person with 2 businesses I shouldn't have to
pay for my 5 employees twice. You know what I mean?

I completely understand the drive to save money as a small business, but please do keep in mind that Cashboard was designed to track information for one company that provides services at a time.

That being said, if you want finer reporting I'd suggest simply "tagging" your expenses in the notes field. Use whatever descriptor you'd like - something unique like "#biz1", "#biz2".

After doing so you can use the "Advanced Search" button on the Expenses tab, or under Home > Reporting to search on that phrase and show only expenses with that in the notes field.

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks Seth – that’s helpful.

I will eventually merge both businesses into one but it’s a big commitment (legal fees and paper work). In the meantime I thought I could use cashboard in a clever way to keep them separate until the day I combine them.

Also, is there any plan to make the app more functional like the actual browser interface? I’m an android user and would love the ability to manage cashboard on the go.

    Thanks!
